The all-new Reeb Hall Pass is a hardtail mountain bike that delivers a \u201cchampagne ride\u201d on a \u201cbeer budget,\u201d according to Colorado-based Reeb. That\u2019s a particularly fitting description, especially coming from a bike brand created by Dale Katechis, founder of Oskar Blues Brewery, and whose name, Reeb, is \u201cbeer\u201d spelled backward.<\/p>\n

The new bike announcement comes exactly one month after Reeb released the Re:Dikyelous<\/a>, the brand\u2019s first new hardtail in five years. The Reeb Hall Pass is a near-perfect carbon copy of the Re:Dikyelous but manufactured in Taiwan instead of Colorado. Importantly, the Taiwan-made Hall Pass costs $1,100 less than the Re:Dikyelous, leaving buyers plenty of extra beer money to play with. <\/p>\n

The Reeb Hall Pass features a steel frame, Portage dropouts <\/h2>\n

Steel Hall Pass frames make use of 3D printed chainstay yokes, and the double-butted tubing is treated with internal ED coating to improve the longevity of the frame. It\u2019s offered in two frame finishes \u2014 Pilsner (shown here) and a sparkling-gray finish called Grisette. Beer fans are no doubt familiar with Pilsner, and Grisette is \u201ca refreshing, low alcohol beer with origins in the Hainaut province of Belgium,\u201d according to Alagash Brewing Company<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Reeb Hall Pass frame features three sets of bottle mounts: two inside the front triangle and one beneath the downtube. The bike is UDH-compatible, and the Portage dropouts allow riders to convert the bike to singlespeed as well. Cables and brake hoses, with the exception of the dropper post cable, are externally routed.<\/p>\n

This is the first time that Reeb has offered a Taiwan-manufactured frame. In press materials announcing the launch, Reeb notes that Hall Pass frames are hand-built in Taiwan and are \u201cdesigned to bring the same ride quality to a broader audience.\u201d Can REEB maintain its brand identity as production scales beyond its Colorado workshop? This bike will serve as an important test.<\/p>\n

Relaxed hardtail geometry<\/h2>\n

With its 130mm suspension fork and 65.5\u00b0 head tube angle, the Reeb Hall Pass is a trail bike that\u2019s designed for maximum enjoyment. The 465mm reach for a size large is on the short end of the spectrum for a hardtail, while the 75\u00b0 seat tube angle is in line with the average hardcore hardtail<\/a>. Thanks to the Portage dropouts, the chainstay length is adjustable from an \u00fcber-playful 420mm to a more standard 435mm length.<\/p>\n

Hall Pass is named for the trails at Hall Ranch<\/a>, a popular open space located near Reeb\u2019s facility in Lyons, Colorado. <\/p>\n

Reeb Hall Pass frames are priced at $1,299 (compare that to $2,399 for US-made Re:Dikyelous frames), and Reeb is currently taking pre-orders<\/a> for both US and International buyers with deliveries beginning in May and April, respectively. Complete builds are available as well, with prices ranging from $3,177 for a mechanical Deore and Marzocchi Bomber Z2 build up to $4,718 for an Eagle 90 and Cane Creek Helm MKII build. <\/p>\n

Notably absent from the build options: wireless electronic drivetrains. This is still Reeb, after all.<\/p>\n
