Not everything needs to be a seismic shift.<\/p>\n

Cerv\u00e9lo has adopted a mantra of small changes in its bikes in recent years, whether it is the R5 climbing bike that was so subtly updated that hardly anyone noticed it was a new bike when it debuted at the Dauphin\u00e9 last year, to the Caledonia-5 update a couple years ago that essentially added downtube storage while keeping everything else that riders liked.<\/p>\n

That m.o. continues on the newly announced generation of the Caledonia \u2014 the entry-level version of the Caledonia-5 \u2014 with Cerv\u00e9lo keeping the changes small, but significant.<\/p>\n

things continue to be much the same in the well-liked model, though with some crucial tweaks that make it more capable than before.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s new with the Caledonia?<\/h2>\n

Cerv\u00e9lo has changed many small things about the Caledonia for this new generation, while keeping the bike\u2019s profile and overall look quite similar to before. Changes are to the tire clearance, cable routing, geometry, and more.<\/p>\n

Tire clearance<\/h3>\n

Tire clearance has increased from 34mm to 36mm (34mm with fenders) allowing the bike to take on more varied terrain, without venturing too close to gravel territory. Cerv\u00e9lo says the geometry is optimized around 32mm tires, but more on that shortly.<\/p>\n

The Caledonia already had a sleek profile with aero shaped tubes, especially for an all-around bike. Now it\u2019s even tidier with Cerv\u00e9lo routing the cables internally through the head tube rather than through the down tube. Home mechanics are probably grumbling at the sound of that, but the system isn\u2019t fully internal; the cables still route outside the stem, allowing for easier cockpit adjustments, and a choice between Cerv\u00e9lo\u2019s fully integrated cockpits and standard stems.<\/p>\n

The Caledonia continues to ship in six sizes \u2014 48, 51, 54, 56, 58, and 61 \u2014 and the geometry remains largely unchanged beyond a few subtle tweaks. The biggest change is to the fork offset, which Cerv\u00e9lo has adjusted to \u201coptimize the geometry for 32mm-wide tires.\u201d<\/p>\n

The front-center of the bike is ever so slightly lengthened out, by about a millimeter across the range, which contributes to the slightly longer wheelbase; the chainstay length remains the same at 415 mm across the range. Standover height is ever so slightly higher as well, raised by about 2 mm. Stack and reach figures remain unchanged.<\/p>\n

Weight<\/h3>\n

Cerv\u00e9lo has also managed to strip out a tiny bit of weight from the Caledonia, claiming a 53-gram savings over the previous version, though Cerv\u00e9lo hasn\u2019t said a total frame weight.<\/p>\n

Threaded bottom bracket<\/h3>\n

The new Caledonia also jumps on the modern movement of threaded bottom brackets, ditching Cerv\u00e9lo\u2019s bbright press fit standard for T47a. Like leaving the cable routing not fully internal, it\u2019s a change that will make maintenance easier.<\/p>\n

Builds and Pricing<\/h2>\n

The Caledonia is available in two colors and three builds, with pricing staying largely the same across the range with the exception of the 105 Di2 build that has gone up by $200 USD.<\/p>\n

The four builds are 105 mechanical ($3,300), 105 Di2 ($4,500), Rival AXS ($4,850), and Force AXS ($6,500).<\/p>\n

Every build is available in both frame colors: a teal-blue called Nightshift and a muted-gold called Mocha.<\/p>\n
