Britain<\/a> has announced that will stop\u00a0issuing student visas to people from\u00a0Afghanistan, \u200bCameroon<\/a>, Myanmar<\/a>and Sudan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It will also suspend skilled work visas \u200bto people from Afghanistan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“An ’emergency brake’ on visas \u200chas been \u200cimposed for \u200bthe first time on nationals from \u200bfour countries following a \u2060surge \u200bin asylum \u200bclaims from \u200blegal routes,” \u200cthe UK Home \u200bOffice \u2060said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, almost 135,000 people have entered the country\u00a0legally on visas<\/a> before subsequently lodging asylum claims, the Home Office said.<\/p>\n

The number of asylum applications by students from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Suduan and Myanmar had “rocketed” by more than 470% between 2021 and 2025, it said.<\/p>\n

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she was “taking the unprecedented decision to refuse visas for those nationals seeking to exploit our generosity.”<\/p>\n
