Well, he ticked at least two of these off the list at the Gucci AW26 show afterparty last Friday night (February 27). The performance signified the arrival of both EsDeeKid as an international star, as well as Demna Gavaglia, who presented his debut runway show as Gucci\u2019s artistic director that same day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Above all, Gucci\u2019s AW26 runway was a spectacle. With walks from practically half of all supermodels in existence \u2013 from Emily Ratajkowski to Kate Moss \u2013 and guest appearances from pretty much the entirety of the now-bubbling UK Ug rap scene \u2013 including fakemink, Ledbyher, Feng, Fimiguerrero, and, from overseas, Nettspend \u2013 Gavaglia\u2019s intention was to showcase the rich relationship that the luxury brand has with culture. \u201cAbove the product, Gucci is culture,\u201d the newly-crowned creative director wrote in his show notes. \u201cI<\/span><span>t is a way of thinking and a way of being. Gucci needs to become a feeling. This time last year, the Liverpudlian rapper\u2019s notoriety was confined to UK underground circles. Since then, he has skyrocketed to over 20 million monthly listeners, released a remix starring Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, and, most recently, been tapped to anoint the new era of Gucci. While his legend is far from over, the moment does provide a good opportunity to look back at how far he\u2019s come.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Below, we break down his journey with five of his top songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cAPATHY\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"9ZVUo9VCb7M \"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9ZVUo9VCb7M%20\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Where better to start than EsDeeKid\u2019s first official single itself? (Rumours surrounding his previous artist alias notwithstanding.) While the track is much rougher than EsDee\u2019s subsequent releases, it\u2019s nonetheless a powerful articulation of the unique intersection of sounds that he exists within. There\u2019s the aggressive delivery reminiscent of UK rap more widely, a lyrical allusion to Drain Gang producer Whitearmor, and a dirty distortion emblematic of the current underground (read: Ug) rap today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cPALACES FEAT. RICO ACE\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"rO_cvdao0rM\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rO_cvdao0rM\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>It was with \u201cPalaces feat. Rico Ace\u201d, however, that EsDeeKid\u2019s true potential became apparent. It\u2019s the first EsDee track to introduce him and Rico as the Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen of UK Ug, and also marked a distillation of EsDee\u2019s sonic formula. His and Rico\u2019s deliveries might be familiar \u2013 if well-honed \u2013 displays of UK rap, but their beat choice takes clear cues from the more alternative cloud rap scene. The song\u2019s cover art has also sparked widespread discussion online: at first glance, does it not look like EsDee is holding a tattoo needle?<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cLV SANDALS FEAT. FAKEMINK AND RICO ACE\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"K6QjQeKfmUs\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K6QjQeKfmUs\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>\u201cLV Sandals\u201d might be looked down upon by die-hard EsDee and fakemink fans for being overplayed, but it has that status for a reason. The track was not only pivotal in both EsDee and fakemink\u2019s careers, but also in the rise of UK Ug as a whole. The lead single from EsDee\u2019s soon-to-be-record-breaking debut album, <\/span><em><span>Rebel<\/span><\/em><span>, marked EsDee\u2019s first collaboration with producer Wraith9, who would go on to define the sound of that project. Moreover, between fakemink\u2019s slack-jawed cloud rap-esque chorus, Rico Ace\u2019s rapid-fire vulgarities, EsDee\u2019s sharp scouse fricatives and Wraith9\u2019s suspenseful production, it\u2019s a strong showcase of the wide range of perspectives UK Ug has to offer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cCENTURY\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"StwmlDe6vE4\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/StwmlDe6vE4\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>So, to bring you up to speed: since \u201cLV Sandals\u201d released, EsDeeKid dropped <\/span><em><span>Rebel<\/span><\/em><span> and, after a slow burn, it became a viral sensation. His monthly listeners jump to 5, 6, 7, 8 million and beyond, and sceptics begin to wonder if it was all a fluke. \u201cCentury\u201d provided the answer. It was the first anyone had heard from EsDee since the virality, but it still had the hunger of his breakout recordings. \u201c<\/span><em><span>I\u2019m bold, I\u2019m eager, she\u2019s loving my demeanour<\/span><\/em><span>,\u201d he raps on the track. EsDeeKid wasn\u2019t about to be a one-hit wonder; he was here to build an empire.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cWE MADE IT ON OUR OWN FEAT. Rumours of a linkup with Yeat had been bubbling for months at this point, with EsDee tweeting Yeat\u2019s signature bell emojis in late 2025, but the timing of its release was clearly intentional. While some fans were disappointed with the track\u2019s slower tempo and notable absence of Ug rap distortion, \u201cMade It On Our Own\u201d is certainly a statement \u2013 its synth lines are celebratory, Yeat\u2019s chorus is destined for American arenas, and\u2026 is that a children\u2019s choir in the background? Well, he ticked at least two of these off the list at the Gucci AW26 show afterparty last Friday night (February 27). The performance signified the arrival of both EsDeeKid as an international star, as well as Demna Gavaglia, who presented his debut runway show as Gucci\u2019s artistic director that same day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Above all, Gucci\u2019s AW26 runway was a spectacle. With walks from practically half of all supermodels in existence \u2013 from Emily Ratajkowski to Kate Moss \u2013 and guest appearances from pretty much the entirety of the now-bubbling UK Ug rap scene \u2013 including fakemink, Ledbyher, Feng, Fimiguerrero, and, from overseas, Nettspend \u2013 Gavaglia\u2019s intention was to showcase the rich relationship that the luxury brand has with culture. \u201cAbove the product, Gucci is culture,\u201d the newly-crowned creative director wrote in his show notes. \u201cI<\/span><span>t is a way of thinking and a way of being. Gucci needs to become a feeling. This time last year, the Liverpudlian rapper\u2019s notoriety was confined to UK underground circles. Since then, he has skyrocketed to over 20 million monthly listeners, released a remix starring Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, and, most recently, been tapped to anoint the new era of Gucci. While the track is much rougher than EsDee\u2019s subsequent releases, it\u2019s nonetheless a powerful articulation of the unique intersection of sounds that he exists within. There\u2019s the aggressive delivery reminiscent of UK rap more widely, a lyrical allusion to Drain Gang producer Whitearmor, and a dirty distortion emblematic of the current underground (read: Ug) rap today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cPALACES FEAT. Rico Ace\u201d, however, that EsDeeKid\u2019s true potential became apparent. It\u2019s the first EsDee track to introduce him and Rico as the Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen of UK Ug, and also marked a distillation of EsDee\u2019s sonic formula. His and Rico\u2019s deliveries might be familiar \u2013 if well-honed \u2013 displays of UK rap, but their beat choice takes clear cues from the more alternative cloud rap scene. The song\u2019s cover art has also sparked widespread discussion online: at first glance, does it not look like EsDee is holding a tattoo needle?<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cLV SANDALS FEAT. The track was not only pivotal in both EsDee and fakemink\u2019s careers, but also in the rise of UK Ug as a whole. The lead single from EsDee\u2019s soon-to-be-record-breaking debut album, <\/span><em><span>Rebel<\/span><\/em><span>, marked EsDee\u2019s first collaboration with producer Wraith9, who would go on to define the sound of that project. His monthly listeners jump to 5, 6, 7, 8 million and beyond, and sceptics begin to wonder if it was all a fluke. \u201cCentury\u201d provided the answer. It was the first anyone had heard from EsDee since the virality, but it still had the hunger of his breakout recordings. \u201c<\/span><em><span>I\u2019m bold, I\u2019m eager, she\u2019s loving my demeanour<\/span><\/em><span>,\u201d he raps on the track. EsDeeKid wasn\u2019t about to be a one-hit wonder; he was here to build an empire.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>\u201cWE MADE IT ON OUR OWN FEAT. Rumours of a linkup with Yeat had been bubbling for months at this point, with EsDee tweeting Yeat\u2019s signature bell emojis in late 2025, but the timing of its release was clearly intentional. While some fans were disappointed with the track\u2019s slower tempo and notable absence of Ug rap distortion, \u201cMade It On Our Own\u201d is certainly a statement \u2013 its synth lines are celebratory, Yeat\u2019s chorus is destined for American arenas, and\u2026 is that a children\u2019s choir in the background?
