Swedish melodic death metal trailblazers At The Gates<\/strong> have announced their eighth studio album, The Ghost of a Future Dead<\/em>, arriving April 24, 2026 via Century Media Records.<\/p>\n The record serves as the follow-up to 2021’s ambitious The Nightmare of Being<\/em> and carries pretty profound emotional weight. The Ghost of a Future Dead<\/em> stands as a tribute to beloved frontman Tomas Lindberg<\/strong>, who passed away in September 2025 due to complications from cancer treatment.<\/p>\n Completed more than two years ago, The Ghost of a Future Dead<\/em> was recorded and mixed by renowned producer Jens Bogren<\/strong> at Fascination Street Studios in \u00d6rebro, Sweden. The album’s artwork was created by Robert Samsonowitz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In a statement, the band reflected on the album’s long journey to release: “We are proud to finally share some news about our eighth studio album, The Ghost of a Future Dead<\/em>. The album will be released on April 24, 2026 \u2013 more than two years after it was completed in the studio.<\/p>\n “As you all know, Tomas Lindberg<\/strong> passed away last year due to complications from his cancer treatment. Over the past few years, we worked closely with Tomas<\/strong>, discussing and refining every detail to ensure nothing was left to chance. In accordance with Tomas<\/strong>‘ wishes \u2013 including the album title, sound mix, track order, artwork, and overall presentation \u2013 The Ghost of a Future Dead<\/em> remains true to form. It combines the ferocious energy and hard-hitting powerful melodies that is the essence of At The Gates<\/strong>. This album is Tomas’ legacy.”<\/p>\n Today also marks the release of the album’s opening track, “The Fever Mask,” which arrives as the lead single. The song is accompanied by a heartfelt tribute video assembled by longtime collaborator Patric Ullaeus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Speaking about the track, the band added: “‘The Fever Mask’ was one of the final songs written for the album and quickly stood out as the natural choice for both the opening track and the first single for The Ghost of a Future Dead<\/em>.
