setting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re\u00a0looking\u00a0a\u00a0the GV60 Magma, the latest EV from Genesis and the first to officially wear its new Magma performance badge. In\u00a0layman\u2019s terms,\u00a0it\u2019s the equivalent of Hyundai\u2019s N badge. In Genesis terms, though,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0about more than just performance. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Magma? WTF is that?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Rather than being a the sometimes-forgotten third arm to the already popular Hyundai and Kia brands, Genesis wants to be the clear sporty, luxurious brand at the top of the tree. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carmagazine.co.uk\/car-news\/industry-news\/genesis\/supercar\/\">fully-funded Le Mans program and supercar<\/a> will help that in the coming years, as will a set of Magma performance models for its range of cars.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u2018Magma represents our declaration that the next\u00a0ten years will be even more significant,\u2019 says\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Mu\u00f1oz,\u00a0president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company &amp; Genesis. \u2018We\u2019re not just building high-performance vehicles; we\u2019re\u00a0redefining what a luxury high\u00a0performance brand can be when Korean innovation meets global\u00a0ambition.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/480x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-23.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-238722\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/480x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-23.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/720x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-23.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/1040x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-23.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>However, unlike Hyundai\u2019s N badge, which is all about smashing N\u00fcrburgring lap times or electrified buggies, Magma is about the blend of performance and luxury. \u2018Magma is not a hardcore sub-brand but is actually the best of the best of Genesis,\u2019 said\u00a0Luc\u00a0Donckerwolke,\u00a0chief\u00a0creative\u00a0officer of Genesis.\u00a0\u2018It modulates and increases some of the facets of the car without taking the car out\u00a0of balance.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0an iron fist in a velvet glove.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>How that\u00a0eye on luxury\u00a0translates to\u00a0a win-at-all-costs\u00a0Le Mans\u00a0programme remains to be seen, but it can at least\u00a0work on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carmagazine.co.uk\/car-reviews\/genesis\/gv60-suv\/\">GV60 SUV<\/a>, which is already one of the\u00a0most\u00a0fully featured\u00a0EVs on the Hyundai Motor Group Fleet.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Genesis, Magma, and Genesis Magma Racing\u2014GMR,\u2019\u00a0explained Mike Song,\u00a0global head of Genesis.\u00a0\u2018These are three assets\u00a0which\u00a0will play a very synergistic role to enhance each other. Not only for Genesis,\u00a0or only for Magma, or only for GMR\u2014it\u2019s\u00a0all together.\u00a0When these work together\u00a0closely, then we may have some\u00a0very good\u00a0lessons learned from GMR into Magma.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So,\u00a0tell me about the GV60 Magma\u00a0then\u2026\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s a pretty wild thing. Naturally, it uses the regular GV60 as a base but adds an aggressive bodykit. The front is beefier, but the rear gets some sporty treatment too.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0a new\u00a0rear wing which\u00a0produces\u00a0actual\u00a0downforce and is shaped as like it has a pair of horns at the ends, and you get more black accents and a lower diffuser to finish of the new Magma\u2019s stance. The new bodykit enables a 50mm increase in track width and a 20mm lower ride height. Forged 21-inch wheels wearing Pirelli P Zero Elect tyres are standard.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u2018We start with a bundle of energy, which is the GV60.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0also the youngest\u00a0product we have in the brand,\u2019 said\u00a0Donckerwolke.\u00a0\u2018So, it makes sense to start with this one, and then\u00a0to mature the Magma lineup with different typologies of vehicles.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/480x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-15.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-253199\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/480x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-15.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/720x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-15.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/181988\/1040x0\/genesis-gv60-magma-15.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Under the aggressive bodywork is an 84kWh battery pack, powering a pair of electric motors generating a total of 601bhp\u00a0and\u00a0546lb ft. Like lots of HMG products, though,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0also a Boost mode which takes power up to 641bhp and 583lb ft \u2013 albeit for just 15 seconds at a time. Top speed is the same in both modes, at 164mph. Genesis claims a 3.4sec 0-62mph time, and 0-124mph takes 10.9 seconds when using the car\u2019s launch control.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We also slightly\u00a0modified\u00a0the battery and the driveline.
