Achilles injury that ended his 2025 season before this year\u2019s French Open, according to a former Danish player.<\/p>\n<p>Former world No 4 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/holger-rune\">Rune<\/a> underwent surgery in October after confirming his Achilles was \u201cfully broken\u201d, having suffered the brutal injury in his semi-final match with Ugo Humbert at the Stockholm Open.<\/p>\n<p>Some predicted that Rune could be out of action for as long as a year due to the difficulty of Achilles injuries.<\/p>\n<p>However, during an interview with Marca in early January, Rune was positive about the progress he was making on the road to recovery and gave a firm answer when asked if the 2026 season was \u201ca lost cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot at all, my ambitions are the same. And we\u2019ll see what happens. I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll be hungry,\u201d Rune said.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Bastiansen, a former Danish ATP player turned pundit, claimed Rune is aiming to play two clay-court tournaments before competing at Roland Garros \u2014 a plan he described as \u201ccrazy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems that the rehab is going as it should. I know the plan is to play two lead-up tournaments before Roland Garros.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s extremely positive that Holger is starting to show himself at tournaments. He was at the tournament in Doha, and of course he\u2019s also doing his rehabilitation in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow he\u2019s getting back into it, feeling the kind of grind that comes with being an experienced ATP player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the same outlet, Rune\u2019s mother Aneke did not set a return date for the 22-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t set a date, even though we would like to.
