href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/central-saint-martins\">Central Saint Martins<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kaighattaura\/\">Kai Ghattaura<\/a> \u2013 the 23-year-old designer from Telford \u2013 <\/span>is in the final stages of completing his MA collection. <em data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"355\">Seminomadic<\/em> was debuted last night (February 19) at London Fashion Week, following a year of momentum sparked by his last project, <em data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"460\">A Scattered Dream<\/em>, a rave-turned-fashion show staged in a shaky North London industrial venue.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019m not interested in dragging out the same kind of aesthetic across seasons,\u201d he tells me, leaning back into the study cove he\u2019s calling from. \u201cMy references are always trying to juxtapose what is happening on the internet right now with old historical references that inherently make no sense together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Shown at CSM\u2019s MA Fashion graduate show, <em>Seminomadic <\/em>saw Ghattaura\u2019s models take to the runway in upturned pike shoes and colourful jackets, with an added focus on headwear and fastenings. Fabric was banded around arms, while long trails of balled textile wrapped around chests and headpieces, some trailing all the way to the floor.<\/p>\n<p>This anachronistic play runs throughout the designer\u2019s previous work, which married medieval-fantasy silhouettes with hyper-online detritus. Soundtracked by a dark, heady backbeat, models stormed the space in distressed, mud-smeared garments, swords and gauntlets in hand \u2013 their medieval grime punctuated by flashes of digital absurdity: a \u201cbubonic plague\u201d-flavoured Lost Mary backpack, a Gen Alpha\u2013primed cap reading \u201cGyatt Aura\u201d, and a cry-laughing emoji handbag cast in concrete.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"680d9bf3-e48e-4e15-a0a3-b3f700cdff3a\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/1334\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1430\/8\/1438106.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"0.67\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Kai Ghattaura Central Saint Martins MA Fashion 2026\" class=\"img\" height=\"2000\" src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/786\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1430\/8\/1438106.jpg\" width=\"1334\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Kai Ghattaura\u2019s Central Saint Martins MA Fashion 2026 <span class=\"nowrap\">graduate collections<\/span><\/span><span class=\"credit\">Photography Morgane Maurice<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>But for all its algorithmic-coolness, there\u2019s a grounding in Ghattaura\u2019s work that is easy to miss, especially if caught through blown-out clips online and blurry Instagram stories from the scene\u2019s 20-somethings. \u201cIt\u2019s really important that my work is not just some kind of fantasy land escape from reality, but actually it\u2019s like a reflection of what is happening around us, which most of the time isn&#8217;t that good,\u201d he tells us.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Below, we talk to the designer about the \u201cbroken\u201d fashion industry, meme culture and what it was like dressing Liverpudlian-of-the-moment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/esdeekid\">Esdeekid<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are some influences within your work?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura:<\/strong><span> I grew up heavily on the computer, so that obviously influences my work a lot. I wasn\u2019t one of those kids drawing at six; I was playing games. I think that really shaped how I think and what I find interesting. I never really got into exhibitions or fashion shows because they just seemed really boring to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you still play any videogames?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura:<\/strong><span> When I was 18 and moved to London. I left everything back home, so I was kind of forced to go out and socialise. Before that, I used to play a ton of games like <em>Minecraft<\/em>, <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em>, and <em>Final Fantasy<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What was it like dressing Esdeekid in a custom pieces for his tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong>It was chill. He reached out ages ago after seeing my BA collection. We\u2019d wanted to work together for a while, but the timing never lined up. He was even meant to walk the show, but it clashed with his tour. Since then, he\u2019s blown up, and I got contacted by his stylist, Alex, who asked for a few pieces. Two of them have already been shown, the swords and hoodie, and there\u2019s another piece we worked on for this year, which I\u2019m really excited about, but I can\u2019t talk about it yet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><strong>How did you get into fashion?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura:<\/strong>When I was 16, I had no idea what I wanted to do, but my mum knew I liked clothes, so she signed me up for an art course at my local college in Shrewsbury. It covered pattern cutting, but also photography, art, and illustration. I didn\u2019t even know you could study fashion at the time. As soon as I learned pattern cutting, I was hooked, and I just bummed off the rest. From there, for whatever reason, I ended up on the BA at CSM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you working on right now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong><span>I\u2019m working on my MA collection and starting to plan my show. For me, it\u2019s really important that the audience is involved, not just a spectator. That\u2019s why the rave setting made sense for <\/span><em><span>A Scattered Dream<\/span><\/em><span>, but I\u2019d love to keep experimenting with unconventional spaces and trying new things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you want people to know about your practice?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong><span>The most important thing is having fun in your practice. When I was putting on that show on basically no budget, one of the main things I had in mind was that it would be a fun experience for the team. No one was sent out to pick up fabric or run errands; everything was prepared beforehand, and most of the patterns were done by me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We had this massive room full of all sorts of items, and the team had as much freedom to create as I did. It was very collaborative. One week, an intern might bring in some old chairs, the next week another cuts them up, and by the third week someone\u2019s turned them into a pair of wings. Everyone\u2019s drinking beers, smoking, experimenting, it\u2019s meant to be fun, a sort of crash course on how to struggle a show together. And yeah, I\u2019m really happy with how it turned out.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><strong>You\u2019ve said the fashion system is broken. Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong>I think the whole system is completely broken right now, there\u2019s nothing interesting happening, and I don\u2019t even want to go to most shows. Nothing transgressive has happened in the last decade, and no one\u2019s been pushed out of their comfort zone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I hate special treatment. No one is more important than anyone else. That\u2019s how I run my team too \u2013 we all work together, I&#8217;m on the sewing machine 24\/7, if I wasn&#8217;t doing emails, everyone is contributing. That\u2019s how you make something amazing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which fictional character do you relate to most?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Kai Ghattaura: \u00a0<\/strong>Rudo from Gachiakuta because he loves trash.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>If the fashion industry disappeared tomorrow, what would you retrain as?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong>I\u2019d probably get a pub job; fashion is so stressful. href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/central-saint-martins\">Central Saint Martins<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kaighattaura\/\">Kai Ghattaura<\/a> \u2013 the 23-year-old designer from Telford \u2013 <\/span>is in the final stages of completing his MA collection. <em data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"355\">Seminomadic<\/em> was debuted last night (February 19) at London Fashion Week, following a year of momentum sparked by his last project, <em data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"460\">A Scattered Dream<\/em>, a rave-turned-fashion show staged in a shaky North London industrial venue.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019m not interested in dragging out the same kind of aesthetic across seasons,\u201d he tells me, leaning back into the study cove he\u2019s calling from. \u201cMy references are always trying to juxtapose what is happening on the internet right now with old historical references that inherently make no sense together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Shown at CSM\u2019s MA Fashion graduate show, <em>Seminomadic <\/em>saw Ghattaura\u2019s models take to the runway in upturned pike shoes and colourful jackets, with an added focus on headwear and fastenings. Fabric was banded around arms, while long trails of balled textile wrapped around chests and headpieces, some trailing all the way to the floor.<\/p>\n<p>This anachronistic play runs throughout the designer\u2019s previous work, which married medieval-fantasy silhouettes with hyper-online detritus. I wasn\u2019t one of those kids drawing at six; I was playing games. I think that really shaped how I think and what I find interesting. I never really got into exhibitions or fashion shows because they just seemed really boring to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you still play any videogames?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura:<\/strong><span> When I was 18 and moved to London. I left everything back home, so I was kind of forced to go out and socialise. Before that, I used to play a ton of games like <em>Minecraft<\/em>, <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em>, and <em>Final Fantasy<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What was it like dressing Esdeekid in a custom pieces for his tour?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong>It was chill. He reached out ages ago after seeing my BA collection. We\u2019d wanted to work together for a while, but the timing never lined up. He was even meant to walk the show, but it clashed with his tour. Since then, he\u2019s blown up, and I got contacted by his stylist, Alex, who asked for a few pieces. Two of them have already been shown, the swords and hoodie, and there\u2019s another piece we worked on for this year, which I\u2019m really excited about, but I can\u2019t talk about it yet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><strong>How did you get into fashion?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura:<\/strong>When I was 16, I had no idea what I wanted to do, but my mum knew I liked clothes, so she signed me up for an art course at my local college in Shrewsbury. It covered pattern cutting, but also photography, art, and illustration. I didn\u2019t even know you could study fashion at the time. As soon as I learned pattern cutting, I was hooked, and I just bummed off the rest. From there, for whatever reason, I ended up on the BA at CSM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are you working on right now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong><span>I\u2019m working on my MA collection and starting to plan my show. For me, it\u2019s really important that the audience is involved, not just a spectator. That\u2019s why the rave setting made sense for <\/span><em><span>A Scattered Dream<\/span><\/em><span>, but I\u2019d love to keep experimenting with unconventional spaces and trying new things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you want people to know about your practice?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong><span>The most important thing is having fun in your practice. When I was putting on that show on basically no budget, one of the main things I had in mind was that it would be a fun experience for the team. No one was sent out to pick up fabric or run errands; everything was prepared beforehand, and most of the patterns were done by me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We had this massive room full of all sorts of items, and the team had as much freedom to create as I did. It was very collaborative. One week, an intern might bring in some old chairs, the next week another cuts them up, and by the third week someone\u2019s turned them into a pair of wings. Everyone\u2019s drinking beers, smoking, experimenting, it\u2019s meant to be fun, a sort of crash course on how to struggle a show together. And yeah, I\u2019m really happy with how it turned out.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><strong>You\u2019ve said the fashion system is broken. Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong>I think the whole system is completely broken right now, there\u2019s nothing interesting happening, and I don\u2019t even want to go to most shows. Nothing transgressive has happened in the last decade, and no one\u2019s been pushed out of their comfort zone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I hate special treatment. No one is more important than anyone else. That\u2019s how I run my team too \u2013 we all work together, I&#8217;m on the sewing machine 24\/7, if I wasn&#8217;t doing emails, everyone is contributing. That\u2019s how you make something amazing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which fictional character do you relate to most?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Kai Ghattaura: \u00a0<\/strong>Rudo from Gachiakuta because he loves trash.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>If the fashion industry disappeared tomorrow, what would you retrain as?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Kai Ghattaura: <\/strong>I\u2019d probably get a pub job; fashion is so stressful.
