We are actively working with the Wasatch County Sheriff\u2019s Office to gather details. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victim\u2019s family and loved ones during this difficult time. UAC forecasters are visiting the accident site today.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1222\"><strong>The identity of the victim was not released and no additional information about the second person involved was immediately available. <\/strong>The fatal avalanche comes after a powerful storm cycle that delivered heavy snowfall across Utah\u2019s mountains. Resorts in the Cottonwood Canyons reported receiving more than 3 feet of new snow in recent days, with totals reaching roughly 4 feet at Alta Ski Area.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1765\"><strong>The Utah Avalanche Center had already issued an avalanche warning covering much of the Wasatch Range, citing high (Level 4 of 5) danger due to heavy new snow falling on weak underlying layers in the snowpack. <\/strong>The warning remains in effect through at least Friday morning, with the possibility of continued alerts depending on conditions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1897\" data-end=\"2092\"><strong>\u201cAvoid all avalanche terrain. <\/strong>Stay off of and out from slopes steeper than 30 degrees,\u201d the advisory states. \u201cFind safer riding conditions on slopes less than 30 degrees with no overhead hazard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2136\" data-end=\"2314\"><strong>While Utah experiences multiple avalanche incidents each winter, this is the first confirmed avalanche death in the state this season, according to the Utah Avalanche Center. <\/strong>Forecasters say conditions remain unstable across many backcountry zones, particularly where recent storms have added heavy loads onto an already fragile snowpack.
