Paint on high-end bikes is unfortunately too often best described as drab. Trek and Specialized are bucking that trend with a slate of limited edition bikes that celebrate color.<\/p>\n

While these releases have nothing to do with each other, they share a common enemy in the sea of safe, boring black bikes dominating the market. You will have to decide if different actually means good, but it is worth celebrating the choice. You don\u2019t have to ride a boring bike. Just know that you will need some cash and to act fast since both collections are strictly limited.<\/p>\n

Trek: The 50th Anniversary Collection<\/h2>\n

Trek turns 50 this year and the brand is using the Project One ICON program to celebrate. Project One is available on a wide range of bikes in the Trek portfolio and it allows you to create a semi custom build. The ICON series takes that a bit farther with a collection of \u201cpremium paint schemes that represent the highest level of artistry.\u201d New additions to that line are actually somewhat frequent, but these two celebrate the anniversary.<\/p>\n

The 50th anniversary collection bikes are available for pre-order through April 13 at the Trek Website or Trek retailers, says Trek. Delivery is expected beginning June 2026.<\/p>\n

No. 76 ICON<\/h3>\n

This one is a vintage design that\u2019s only available on the Madone SLR 9 AXS. Trek claims this design \u201c blends the original visual language of Trek\u2019s earliest frames with the engineering of Trek\u2019s fastest road platform\u201d and it features details that reference the past. \u201cThe scheme features Trek\u2019s original 1976 logo, a graphic of Trek\u2019s early brass-plate headbadge, and the brand\u2019s heritage blue, a color inspired by Trek\u2019s earliest handmade touring bikes.\u201d Other details include \u201cAeolus RSL wheels with golden anniversary decals and a special-edition white and red saddle with red rails.\u201d<\/p>\n

The First 50 Icon<\/h3>\n

I don\u2019t want to put a finger on the scale too much but this is the more interesting of the options. Interesting doesn\u2019t mean better though. Let us know what you think about this one.<\/p>\n

Trek says it created a series of icons that represent various details of the brand\u2019s \u201cinnovations, values, people, and defining moments.\u201d Those icons are what you see stacked across the frame. It\u2019s bold and graphic but each icon has a meaning. You can check out this link if you care to explore each one, or you can just enjoy the pictures.<\/p>\n

Specialized: The S-Works Tarmac SL8 Artist Series<\/h2>\n

While Trek is celebrating its brand history, Specialized is going in a completely different direction. Think of these as a celebration of the now through the use of three \u201cglobally recognized artists,\u201d each from a different continent and each a cyclist themself. The brand asked each artist to visually represent \u201cOne Bike to Rule Them All through their own creative lens.\u201d<\/p>\n

As with Trek, these framesets are limited edition and they\u2019ll be gone when they are gone. You can read more on the Specialized website.<\/p>\n

Yoon Hyup<\/h3>\n

Specialized describes the frame as inspired by city riding at night. This design uses \u201chand painted textures and hidden elements drawn from\u201d the artist\u2019s riding life to create a sense of blur as if the street lights are merging during fast riding.<\/p>\n

Artist\u2019s statement: \u201cOne word captures this collaboration for me: synergy. The rider and the bike moving as one.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Parra<\/h3>\n

This one is less about the feeling of a ride and instead a reference to a time and place. It\u2019s a celebration of saturated colors and fluid \u201990s shapes, and it\u2019ll be recognizable to fans of the artist\u2019s sneaker collaborations. This artist already owns a Tarmac and he also wanted to communicate how it feels to ride the bike. Look for \u201chidden typography and redrawn elements waiting to be discovered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Artist\u2019s statement: \u201cThe inspiration comes after the ride. That cycling high is everything.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Lucas Beaufort<\/h3>\n

This one takes a totally different angle. This isn\u2019t about the machine, but the relationships and adventures that the machine affords the rider. It pulls in the artist\u2019s signature \u201cGus Gus\u201d characters but there\u2019s \u201chidden layers meant for each rider\u2019s interpretation.\u201d<\/p>\n
