celebrating its fifth anniversary and tenth collection. To mark the occasion, for their AW26 show, designers Laura Beham and Callum Pidgeon took a trip down memory lane, revisiting their archives and drawing inspiration from past collections that shaped their brand identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This season\u2019s offering came via lookbook, photographed by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/jesse-glazzard\"><span>Jesse Glazzard<\/span><\/a><span> and featuring anonymous models, mostly all shrouded by hair or oversized sunglasses. Every look becomes its own character \u2013 there\u2019s the blurred figure in a black gimp suit, lingering in the toilets; the older gentleman in a tailored pinstripe suit, and the partygirl in gold kitten heels, wearing a dress made from miniature Eiffel towers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As well as trawling through their own archives, the main influence for the collection came from queer British magazines of the 70s and 80s \u2013 introduced to the designers by stylist L\u00e9opold Duchemin. \u201cThe images are raw and beautiful,\u201d they explain, \u201cfrom the texture of the images, the poses, the decor, liberation, fear, we connected emotionally with them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The duo, who are a couple in both life and work, met while sharing a desk working under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/demna-gvasalia\"><span>Demna<\/span><\/a><span> at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/vetements\"><span>Vetements<\/span><\/a><span>, before founding their own label, Prototypes in 2021. What was the starting point for your AW26 collection?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Being our tenth collection, we started by revisiting our archive, as it felt like an anniversary in some ways. It was surprising to realise how many styles we\u2019ve produced over the past five years. We focused on updating and reimagining early concepts that helped build the brand in the beginning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you design with one person in mind, or many?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Many! We design our collections with the idea of building a wardrobe, a walk-in-wardrobe if you like \u2013 there needs to be a favourite piece for everyone who walks in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is the original prototype?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>I wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s a person; a prototype is a perfect freeze of exploration. A first draft of an idea that is unpolished, never finished, and constantly evolving.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you meet Jess,e and what made him the right photographer to shoot this lookbook?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>We were first introduced to Jesse\u2019s work through L\u00e9opold [Duchemin], and we fell in love with his ability to document a character or an emotion. There\u2019s a rawness to his style that fits this campaign. It\u2019s like creating a mannequin, you pay more attention to the character&#8217;s silhouette, pose and movement. Being faceless can portray a different energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who\u2019s someone anonymous that you\u2019d like to know the identity of?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>We recently had a showroom visit from EsDeeKid. His career has lifted off really quickly \u2013 we didn\u2019t get a glimpse of his face, though.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What were you listening to when you were designing this collection?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Looking back at the playlist, this collection&#8217;s music was particularly alternative and moody: Portishead, Sinead O\u2019Connor, Chris Isaak, that vibe. Usually, in past collections, it\u2019s more upbeat. I don\u2019t know why we switched it up this season, either it fitted the mood, or we\u2019re just getting older.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s something that you haven\u2019t achieved yet that you\u2019d like to?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Buying some land one day would be nice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s next for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Laura\u2019s pregnant and due in May, so we\u2019re having a baby this year, which will change our work life. To mark the occasion, for their AW26 show, designers Laura Beham and Callum Pidgeon took a trip down memory lane, revisiting their archives and drawing inspiration from past collections that shaped their brand identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This season\u2019s offering came via lookbook, photographed by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/jesse-glazzard\"><span>Jesse Glazzard<\/span><\/a><span> and featuring anonymous models, mostly all shrouded by hair or oversized sunglasses. Every look becomes its own character \u2013 there\u2019s the blurred figure in a black gimp suit, lingering in the toilets; the older gentleman in a tailored pinstripe suit, and the partygirl in gold kitten heels, wearing a dress made from miniature Eiffel towers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As well as trawling through their own archives, the main influence for the collection came from queer British magazines of the 70s and 80s \u2013 introduced to the designers by stylist L\u00e9opold Duchemin. \u201cThe images are raw and beautiful,\u201d they explain, \u201cfrom the texture of the images, the poses, the decor, liberation, fear, we connected emotionally with them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The duo, who are a couple in both life and work, met while sharing a desk working under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/demna-gvasalia\"><span>Demna<\/span><\/a><span> at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/vetements\"><span>Vetements<\/span><\/a><span>, before founding their own label, Prototypes in 2021. What was the starting point for your AW26 collection?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Being our tenth collection, we started by revisiting our archive, as it felt like an anniversary in some ways. It was surprising to realise how many styles we\u2019ve produced over the past five years. We focused on updating and reimagining early concepts that helped build the brand in the beginning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you design with one person in mind, or many?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Many! We design our collections with the idea of building a wardrobe, a walk-in-wardrobe if you like \u2013 there needs to be a favourite piece for everyone who walks in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is the original prototype?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>I wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s a person; a prototype is a perfect freeze of exploration. A first draft of an idea that is unpolished, never finished, and constantly evolving.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you meet Jess,e and what made him the right photographer to shoot this lookbook?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>We were first introduced to Jesse\u2019s work through L\u00e9opold [Duchemin], and we fell in love with his ability to document a character or an emotion. There\u2019s a rawness to his style that fits this campaign. It\u2019s like creating a mannequin, you pay more attention to the character&#8217;s silhouette, pose and movement. Being faceless can portray a different energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who\u2019s someone anonymous that you\u2019d like to know the identity of?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>We recently had a showroom visit from EsDeeKid. His career has lifted off really quickly \u2013 we didn\u2019t get a glimpse of his face, though.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What were you listening to when you were designing this collection?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Looking back at the playlist, this collection&#8217;s music was particularly alternative and moody: Portishead, Sinead O\u2019Connor, Chris Isaak, that vibe. Usually, in past collections, it\u2019s more upbeat. I don\u2019t know why we switched it up this season, either it fitted the mood, or we\u2019re just getting older.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s something that you haven\u2019t achieved yet that you\u2019d like to?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Buying some land one day would be nice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s next for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prototypes: <\/strong><span>Laura\u2019s pregnant and due in May, so we\u2019re having a baby this year, which will change our work life.
