Polestar has announced it intends to release four new cars over the next three years, and one of them will be a new version of the Polestar 4<\/a> that finally gives it a see-through rear window. Progress!<\/p>\n

And it\u2019ll get more than a bit of glass \u2013 Polestar said this new 4 variant will combine \u201cthe space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar\u201d. So: it\u2019ll be a fast, high-riding estate. After all, Sweden, Polestar confirms, \u201cis famous for its estate cars\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Could this more capacious and versatile model be a reaction to a muted response to the rear-windowless 4 since it arrived? Not according to Polestar: the lifted estate is meant to open up the car to a wider customer base. Over 10,000 4s have found homes in the UK since it arrived at the end of 2024, we\u2019re told.<\/p>\n

Indeed, across the globe as a whole, Polestar sold 60,119 cars last year. While we don\u2019t have UK-only figures for the Polestar 4\u2019s rivals, we do know last year the Porsche Macan Electric<\/a> shifted 45k worldwide, the Audi Q6 e-tron<\/a> 64k, and the Model Y continued its reign as the world\u2019s best-selling EV.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking of best-selling, Polestar will reveal an entirely new 2<\/a> in early 2027, and the stress here really is on \u2018entirely new\u2019. In car terms it\u2019s already a bit of an old-timer, having first been introduced in mid-2020. In that time, Polestar\u2019s sold over 190,000 of them.<\/p>\n

The second-gen Polestar 2 will get new (Geely) underpinnings with upgraded motors and batteries, a fresh new look, and will be priced around what the current 2 costs. Expect to see it early in 2027.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And then after the 2 comes\u2026 the 7<\/a>, because of course. That car \u2013 a \u2018compact SUV\u2019 \u2013 will be the same size as the Polestar 2, but SUV-ified. So a Geely platform, built in Europe and tuned by Polestar. Price? Around the same as the current 2, apparently.<\/p>\n

What about the other numbers? The Polestar 5<\/a> \u2013 which we drove last year as a prototype \u2013 will be available from this summer \u2013 while the gorgeous Polestar 6<\/a> roadster has been put on ice. It\u2019s not been mentioned in today\u2019s announcement, and Polestar told TopGear.com the priority is on rolling out the 5 \u2018halo\u2019 car, 4 estate, new 2 and new 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing our best sales year ever, we are now launching the largest model offensive in our history,\u201d said boss Michael Lohscheller<\/a>. Indeed, those 60,119 cars sold in 2025 was a 34 per cent rise versus 2024 (44,851). Though, that\u2019s mainly down to the Polestar 3 and 4 joining the 2 in the range. Three cars is better than one, of course.<\/p>\n
