There are cross-country race bikes, and then there are short-travel mountain bikes that are designed to be more fun and comfortable to ride.

So the Ibis Ripley SL specs four-piston brakes, Fox 34 SL forks, and grippy Continental Magnotal (soft) tires up front. At 25lb for the lightest builds, it???s still a very lightweight spec without compromising the bike???s descending capabilities.

Of course, tires are easy to swap, and one curious design choice is the 2.4??? rear tire clearance. That???s the same as the Exie, but less than the 2.5??? clearance the standard Ripley offers. A tenth of an inch probably isn???t a big deal, though it could potentially limit burlier tire options that some riders prefer.

The Ibis Ripley SL fills a gap in the brand???s lineup with a true downcountry bike that???s not only lightweight but also made in the USA.

       <!–

Related articles

       –>

    jQuery(function() {
postpayloads._4a41fa7ce916c9b9170ed9ab2fd94dba = {“ids”:”711705,705730,703098,641281″,”posts_per_page”:null,”offset”:0,”style”:”4up”};
postcounter._4a41fa7ce916c9b9170ed9ab2fd94dba = {start: 0, step: 0, end: 0};
});

Trail Bikes

The Allied Fitz is a sub-27lb trail bike with 140mm of travel

Trail Bikes

The Ibis Ripley v5 is Singletracks readers’ 2025 Trail Bike of the Year

      <img decoding="async" class="lazy" src="//www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201%201'%3E%3C/svg%3E" data-src="https://images.singletracks.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Profile-2-750x500.jpg" alt="A mountain bike with a white frame and black components, resting on grass covered in fallen leaves.
