In fact, after day two of testing in Bahrain, four-time champ Max Verstappen described the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/formula-one\/heres-every-2026-f1-livery-which-11-teams-has-done-it-best\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"36b51f57-c605-49cb-8835-7d4bf282aa86\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Here\u2019s every 2026 F1 livery... which of the 11 teams has done it best?\">new cars<\/a> as \u201cjust not Formula 1\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The right word is management,\u201d said Verstappen in his first press conference of 2026 according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/formula1\/articles\/cz0gm2z0eg3o\" data-entity-type=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Sport<\/a>. \u201cBut on the other hand, I also know how much work has been going on in the background. And at the moment, you cannot drive like that. There&#8217;s a lot going on. A lot of what you do as a driver, in terms of inputs, has a massive effect on the energy side of things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, that&#8217;s just not Formula 1. Maybe it&#8217;s better to drive Formula E, right? Because that&#8217;s all about energy efficiency and management. That&#8217;s what they stand for. But we get paid a stupid amount of money to drive so we can&#8217;t really complain at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a challenge, but it&#8217;s a good, fun challenge for the engineers and the drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That challenge is mostly coming from the new power units which feature a near 50:50 split between petrol and electric power, meaning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/formula-one\/formula-one-about-get-weird-watch-fastest-laps-testing-so-far\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"79075b57-a94f-4939-9776-98abfa587e5a\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Formula One is about to get weird: watch the fastest laps of testing so far\u2026\">energy recovery is the talk of the paddock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at Barcelona, for example, we&#8217;re doing 600 metres lift and coast on a qualifying lap,\u201d said Lewis Hamilton. \u201cThat&#8217;s not what racing is about.
