Gillespie got going again and was clawing her way up Wiebes\u2019 right but ran out of road, lunging for the line yet missing out on the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Wiebes had taken stage one and two by several bike lengths over her rivals, but things were less dominant this time around.<\/p>\n<p>She explained afterwards that things didn\u2019t quite go to plan in the run up to the sprint.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder -mt-[30px] mb-[30px] flex min-h-[250px] w-full items-center justify-center\">\n<div class=\"w-full \">\n<div id=\"in-content-leaderboard-I0-P0-CMI0\" class=\"flex justify-center text-left\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI lost Barbara [leadout woman Barbara Guarischi] a bit, so I needed to find my way by myself a bit more,\u201d the Team SD Worx \u2013 Protime rider said. \u201cI went quite a lot through the wind before I could start my sprint, so it was quite a hard one. The team did an amazing job all day long to chase the breakaway. Right now there is a significant gulf between them\u2014seven career wins, as compared to 121\u2014but she gave it her all and was much nearer than she was when she was runner-up on stage one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are getting closer,\u201d the 24 year old smiled. \u201cThe hope is there and the belief is there. We had really good teamwork again today and we are in control. We go in tomorrow strong again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow is, however, a very different stage altogether. There is a 10.7km climb to the summit of Jebel Hafeet and given their physical characteristics, there is next to no chance for Wiebes and Gillespie to be in contention again.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, look for the climbers on their teams to represent each squad\u2019s hopes for the stage win and the final overall classification.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder -mt-[30px] mb-[30px] flex min-h-[250px] w-full items-center justify-center\">\n<div class=\"w-full \">\n<div id=\"in-content-leaderboard-I1-P0-CMI0\" class=\"flex justify-center text-left\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For SD Worx Protime that will be an opportunity for Anna van der Breggen. For UAE Team ADQ it will be Elisa Longo Borghini. The latter triumphed in 2024 and again last year, and looks to make it a third successive GC triumph on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Breggen will do what she can to spoil the part. How does Wiebes see her chances?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to see.
