That\u2019s right, frickin\u2019 lasers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<p>Rolls-Royce apparently spent five years developing the technique it used on this one-off Phantom \u2013 a technique inspired by Italy, no less \u2013 before it achieved \u201cthe depth, clarity and consistency demanded by Rolls-Royce artisans\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern itself takes its form from the intricate Mashrabiya design language unique to Middle Eastern culture. For its transfer onto the nose of this Phantom, the bonnet was painted in a darker colour, then sealed under multiple layers of clear coat, before a lighter top layer was applied.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<p>Then, lasers happened. The super intricate Mashrabiya pattern was engraved to a depth of 145-190 microns \u2013 a human hair is apparently somewhere between 50-70 microns, as if you needed any context \u2013 that then revealed the darker tones underneath.<\/p>\n<p>The engraved areas were then hand-sanded for \u201can even, sculptural finish\u201d. Why not just layer the pattern over the top of the Phantom\u2019s bonnet? Because lasering it into the very paint itself \u201cachieves an exceptional level of refinement and durability\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"HtmlContent\" class=\"MarkUpWrapper-sc-t20i90-0 hQwWlJ\">\n<p>The rest of the body is finished in a two-tone black and silver paintjob, 22in polished alloy wheels, while inside it\u2019s fully bespoke: lots of leather, Mashrabiya motifs, and a full-width \u2018Gallery\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMashrabiya is one of the Middle East\u2019s best-known and most enduring design languages,\u201d said RR\u2019s Michelle Lusby, bespoke lead designer for its private office in Dubai. \u201cFor Phantom Arabesque, we were inspired not only by its beauty but also by the privacy, light and airflow it creates.
