TopGear.com would like to salute a very small number of the UK\u2019s fine used car buying public. Data revealed by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed 5,279 of you bought used pink cars last year! Just over 9,000 of you bought yellow cars!<\/p>\n

And a whopping 31,503 of you bought a green car, which was apparently the biggest leap over the year before! To the staggering 1.7 million of you who bought a black car \u2013 the UK\u2019s best-selling colour of used automobile in 2025 \u2013 well… there\u2019s always next year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In other news that really won\u2019t surprise you, the Ford Fiesta \u2013 the mighty, brilliant, formerly all-conquering and now quite dead Ford Fiesta<\/a> \u2013 remains the UK\u2019s best-selling used car, with 303,090 second-hand examples finding homes in 2025.<\/p>\n

(Wanna hear something potentially fascinating? The Fiesta\u2019s iron grip on the second-hand top spot stretches as far back as 2009. Almost as if fun, small cars are a good idea.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Vauxhall Corsa was the second-biggest used car seller in 2025 (247,853 sold), followed by the VW Golf (226,082). The rest of the top ten is filled with all the usual suspects: Focus, 3 Series, Mini, Polo, Astra, Qashqai and A3.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, SMMT reported sales of electrified used cars \u2013 that includes full electric cars and hybrids \u2013 rose significantly in 2025 versus 2024 by 30.9 per cent. That meant 770,378 examples changing hands last year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Breaking it down, sales of used battery electric cars were up 45.7 per cent (274,815 cars sold), PHEVs rose by 6.3 per cent (88,032 cars), while mild hybrids rose by 28.6 per cent (407,531 cars) versus 2024.<\/p>\n

SMMT boss Mike Hawes said: \u201cA third year of used car sales growth underscores the market\u2019s resilience, with recovering new car demand revitalising choice and affordability \u2013 especially for EVs \u2013 in the used market. The record number of buyers making the switch signals growing confidence in zero and ultra-low emission motoring.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaintaining this momentum, however, and driving the fleet renewal needed to decarbonise our roads at pace, must start with ensuring a strong and sustainable new car market,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
