Powered by the arrival of the 3 and 4 SUVs \u2013 as well as the always strong 2 \u2013 the clean-living, Volvo spin-off improved sales in the UK by 95%. That brings total sales of new cars to 17,000 in 2025 \u2013 although pre-owned sales also increased by 300% in the same period.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For a brand that\u2019s five years old in the UK, that\u2019s pretty damn good,\u2019 says Polestar\u2019s new UK MD Matt Galvin talking at the business\u2019 annual update. \u2018Global sales were up 34% which we announced last week, which was great. And we sold our 50,000th Polestar in the UK in December,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/480x0\/685863_20241216_polestar_4.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-245746\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/480x0\/685863_20241216_polestar_4.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/720x0\/685863_20241216_polestar_4.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/1040x0\/685863_20241216_polestar_4.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Now in the job for around a year and a half, Galvin was also able to break down the success of each new model. The story in brief? The 2 continues to perform well, although the 4 has more volume than you\u2019d expect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A quick breakdown<\/h2>\n<p>The 2 continues to take the lion\u2019s share of business for Polestar UK, performing well in a congested and competitive segment. There, the 2 had a 12% share, beating the Mercedes CLA and finishing just behind the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 3, on the other hand, had a 21% share albeit of the much smaller luxury electric SUV segment. It was second, beaten by the BMW iX but eclipsing the Mercedes EQE SUV and the Lotus Eletre. Not the strongest competition, but impressive nonetheless.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The biggest breakthrough however comes from the quirky 4 SUV. It seems customers weren\u2019t deterred by its lack of rear window and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carmagazine.co.uk\/our-cars\/2025\/polestar-4\/month-2\/\">not-always-intuitive software<\/a>, because it achieved a market share of 20% in 2025, selling 10,021 units and beating the Audi Q6 e-Tron and Porsche Macan. Only the Tesla Model Y outsold the Polestar 4 in the segment.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the new products, Galvin credits visibility as being a key reason for improving sales: \u2018One of the things that helps us as a brand to grow is having cars on the road,\u2019 he said. \u2018When people see our cars, hopefully they understand a bit more about what who Polestar are, because we don\u2019t have and cannot compete with some of the major league players in terms of share of voice.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/480x0\/693782_20251001_polestar_3_model_year_2026.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-245745\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/480x0\/693782_20251001_polestar_3_model_year_2026.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/720x0\/693782_20251001_polestar_3_model_year_2026.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/245724\/1040x0\/693782_20251001_polestar_3_model_year_2026.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>New Polestar Spaces should also improve things further, with the number of dealerships and stores almost doubling \u2013 with more planned in 2026. \u2018We doubled the size of our UK retailer network,\u2019 Galvin said. \u2018We went from eight spaces to 15, and we\u2019re going to be moving to around 20 in the next by the end of this 12-month period.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We are now going to be moving away from those shopping centres into more traditional formats,\u2019 Galvin told CAR. \u2018And that\u2019s what you\u2019ve seen in terms of our retailer growth.\u2019 With that in mind, expect to see some of those shopping mall and high street areas disappearing, with more traditional dealerships taking their place elsewhere.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It seems those retail-style Spaces have done their job, though, as alongside the sales figures a new survey revealed Polestar was well-known to the public. \u2018YouGov did a survey last year for emerging EV brands, and we were the leading EV brand last year in terms of brand awareness,\u2019 he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What else does Polestar have planned?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The 5 will appear next year, but all the while Polestar is also hard work at work in its mission to ccelerate growth to zero emission (at the tailpipe) vehicles. If we want people to truly adopt EVs, we\u2019ve got to give them a lower entry price point to an electric car, and that\u2019s achieved through a used car.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I think actually having an incentive around used EVs would give more people the opportunity to consider an electric car, and that would actually be more advantageous for residual values as well, which we know are under serious pressure,\u2019 he continued. \u2018We know customers have a big concern about the losses potentially around driving and buying a new EV.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Would it work?
