Back then we were told it was going to be smaller, more compact but with the same character that continues to define the original. At the 2025 Munich show we learnt even more \u2013 and now our spy photographers have snapped the car testing. <\/p>\n<p>These new pictures show Mercedes\u2019 baby G cold weather testing, and give us our first look at the new mini 4\u00d74. It\u2019s covered in camo \u2013 as you\u2019d expect \u2013 but it\u2019s still possible to make out some key details. As widely hinted by Mercedes suits, it\u2019ll feature much of the robust styling of the G-Wagen, but wear it on a slightly smaller, more urban-friendly frame. That\u2019s the baby G\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/480x0\/mb-mini-g-8.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-244865\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/480x0\/mb-mini-g-8.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/720x0\/mb-mini-g-8.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/1040x0\/mb-mini-g-8.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What else do we know? <\/h2>\n<p>According to the top Mercedes bosses, the new car will be totally new, totally bespoke \u2013 but a scaled down (and slightly modernised) version of the iconic 4\u00d74 we already know.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to CAR magazine at the 2025 Munich show, Mercedes CTO Markus Sch\u00e4fer revealed some technical aspects of the forthcoming baby 4\u00d74: \u2018The G is very special, authentic car. And the Mini G also has to be authentic,\u2019 he said. \u2018So, I cannot take just an existing platform, I have to create my own modules.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, the new baby G won\u2019t use an adapted version of the G-Class platform, nor an adapted version of any Mercedes Benz platform currently in use. Instead, Stuttgart has developed a whole new platform, such are the unique requirements of the forthcoming car.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/480x0\/mb-mini-g-13.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-244866\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/480x0\/mb-mini-g-13.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/720x0\/mb-mini-g-13.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/170020\/1040x0\/mb-mini-g-13.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2018When it comes to suspension, when it comes to wheel size, [it\u2019s a] completely new development,\u2019 Schafer added. \u2018We went to far more unique components than I ever wished over time, just looking at the current capabilities and what\u2019s needed.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Schafer was able to confirm that the car won\u2019t be using a ladder chassis.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What will it look like?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Stuttgart\u2019s ex-head of design, Gordon Wagener was also able to shed more light on what the new tiny G will look like \u2013 again at the 2025 Munich show: \u2018We will give it slightly different tweak,\u2019 he confirmed. \u2018Front end might have a bit more sharpness, a bit of a younger graphic\u2026\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Despite the modernisation though, it\u2019ll still look like a G, as that remains the key selling point of the car.
