You might think you want a bob, but then you see a mid-length cut styled with a flip and realize you\u2019re really craving that shape. Or, maybe you think you want to keep your hair long, but then you see a photo of a grown-out pixie cut and feel inspired to go for a bigger chop. Suffice it to say, visual references are everything.\n<\/p>\n

    So ahead of spring, we consulted top hairstylists\u2014and their mood boards (and Instagram)\u2014to pull together the seven top haircuts that feel fresh for spring 2025. If ease and versatility are at the top of your list, you may just find your next great haircut.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    This spring, try what hairstylist Eric Vaughn calls \u201cthe reverse of a haircut\u201d: leaning into \u201cexaggerated\u201d length, without external layers or face-framing. To embody \u201cvacation hair,\u201d styling is key. \u201cYou have definition but it\u2019s not too defined,\u201d explains London-based hairstylist Luke Castillo, \u201cwaves that look like you’ve just been away traveling for months.\u201d It helps to have setting clips, which you can use to create a defined (but not too <\/em>defined) hairline crimp, as seen here on Charlotte Lawrence, courtesy of hairstylist Ricky Fraser. Because this cut (or rather, not really a cut) lacks layers of face-framing pieces, the subtle bends add texture and movement.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    While some are growing their hair long in a kind of \u201870s fashion, another subset are going short with a big chop. \u201cThis looks like taking a client from longer hair to a shorter shape, be that a rounded bob, a more ’90s grown-out pixie, or a classic pixie,\u201d explains Castillo. The \u201890s grown-out pixie\u2014or “bixie,” if you will\u2014is particularly trendy, a hybrid between a shag cut and a pixie. Isabela Merced is the muse.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    While every hairstylist agrees that the bob is a classic shape and not a trendy one, the styling variations can change by the season. This spring, it\u2019s all about a bob with a side part. \u201cThe more volume the better,\u201d says Vaughn. When styling your bob at home, you can use hot rollers or a blowdry brush to create root volume before drawing your side part, which can always be flipped back. It\u2019s low-commitment yet high-impact.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Instead of your average long, layered haircut, consider asking for long \u201cblowout\u201d layers at your spring appointment. This will clue your stylist in on the desired effect of your layers: lots of bouncy volume. \u201cLong blowout layers have been very, very popular, especially with the return of velcro rollers,\u201d explains Vaughn. \u201cThis haircut allows for clients to maintain their length but have a lot of body, volume, and bounce to their hair.\u201d Pro tip: Before blowing out your hair and setting it in rollers, make sure that you apply heat protectant. Vaughn swears by the amika Superfruit Star Lightweight Hair Styling Oil, which prevents breakage and increases shine and softness.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    An evolution of the butterfly haircut, butterfly bangs<\/em> are a variation where attention is paid to how the front layers fall when the hair is pulled back. \u201cThe bangs hug the face not only when the hair is down, but also give really beautiful softness when tied up,\u201d explains Castillo. \u201cIt works perfectly for finer hair to create the illusion of volume, but also works incredibly with curly hair.\u201d What\u2019s great about this cut is that the length doesn\u2019t really matter, it\u2019s all about the front pieces.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It\u2019s long enough to be tucked behind the ear, or curled to curve across the forehead and add modern dimension to Old Hollywood waves. This style on Cindy Kimberly is a great example. \u201cThis style is an easy go to when it comes to all hair types,\u201d explains Castillo, \u201cit gives such versatility and really allows you to have fun with your hair at home, not only in its natural state but with a ferocious blowout.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    If you\u2019ve seen the \u201cjellyfish haircut”\u2014half-short, half-long, with layers that splay like the tentacles of a jellyfish\u2014this style is similar but less intense. It contains just one external layer that ladders up from the ends. Hairstylist Owen Gould provides a masterclass in styling; both layer and ends are expertly flipped out. To get a flip-out at home, you can use a round brush or a flatiron to smooth the hair and curve the ends upward.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
