    When it comes to a rebirth of styles and trends from decades past, we can usually thank Gen Z and the internet at large for their inspirational discovery. Case in point: The Wolf Cut. Named for its resemblance to the pattern of a wolf’s mane, a wolf cut is a haircut with a lot of movement and a lot of short layers.\u00a0The lovechild of a shag and mullet (more so the former), there are a few key differences in style.\n<\/p>\n

    “A shag cut is more of a soft haircut. The layers are longer, and everything is more blended. And in a wolf cut, you will see that the layers will be shorter and there can be a big disconnection in the lengths\u2014this will make the wolf cut stand out,” says Ann Leivsgard, Balmain Hair’s International Educator.\n<\/p>\n

    “It basically blends two iconic, defining periods in music, style, and pop culture\u2014the \u201870s and \u201880s\u2014and gets morphed into a more modern-day look,\u201d adds professional hairstylist Philip B, who notes you may recognize the cut on rock stars like Rod Stewart, Patti Smith, Mick, Kiss, and Joan Jett.\n<\/p>\n

    With all that said, you may be wondering if a wolf cut can work with curly hair. The answer? Absolutely. We asked Leivsgard, Philip B, and celebrity hairstylist Bennett Grey for their advice on how to style a wolf cut if you have curly hair.<\/p>\n

      If you regularly wear your strands in their curly state, Grey notes that maintenance shouldn’t be too different from what you’re already used to doing. ‘If your locks get a little disheveled between washings, just go with it\u2014texture is the name of the game,” he says. “A curl-refreshing spray and dry shampoo will also help in a pinch.”\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      “Physically show the stylist where you want your bangs and the layers to start and where you want the length to hit,” says Grey. “The biggest challenge is making sure the haircut flows from the bangs to the face frame and isn’t over-layered\u2014you want to make sure you\u2019re leaving enough weight through the bottom so the hair doesn’t start looking stringy.”\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
