Carol\u2019s savage jealousy sprang from the fact that Codreanu was and did everything that Carol wished to be and do. As far back as 1920, when he first heard of Mussolini, Carol wished to found a fascist movement in Rumania. And Codreanu founded this fascist movement. Carol wished to be loved by his people, especially by the young. And Codreanu was a Pied Piper who stole the hearts of his people, especially the young ones. Carol wished to be a tribune in the imagination of Rumanians, instead of king. And Codreanu was a tribune who stood in the imagination of the Rumanians as both martyr and prophet.<\/p>\n

Though strangled on a cold November night in the forest of Ploesti, Codreanu still dominated the Rumanian political scene as counterpoint to Carol. He was still very much alive: people told you about him, all emphasizing an elfin quality about his tall, dark handsomeness, something which set him mysteriously apart among men and made him seem to belong to the forests, seas, and mountains. Of all would-be dictators he was the only one who did not rely on speeches but on silence. On a white horse, in the white costume of the Rumanian peasant, the Capitanu, people told you, used to ride through the villages of Moldavia and Muntenia, acclaimed by the peasants as the envoy of the Archangel Michael. He did not have to speak, and more often than not the authorities forbade this, but he was there, smiling his childlike radiant smile, and people loved him and believed in him.<\/p>\n

So great was Codreanu\u2019s effect on the Rumanian masses that when he was tried for the assassination of the Police Prefect Manciu at Turnu Severin, tens of thousands waited before the courthouse. After his acquittal-he acted, said the verdict, in legal self-defence-he married, and ninety thousand Rumanians from all over the country in thousands of vehicles formed a bridal procession more than four miles long. The newsreel of this bridal procession was confiscated and burnt by the Government as a document endangering public order and security. This was in 1925!<\/p>\n

Iar Codreanu a fondat aceast\u0103 mi\u0219care. Carol dorea s\u0103 fie iubit de poporul s\u0103u, mai ales de tineri. Iar Codreanu a fost un erou care a furat inimile poporului s\u0103u, \u00een special ale tinerilor. Carol \u00ee\u0219i dorea s\u0103 fie un tribun \u00een imagina\u021bia rom\u00e2nilor, \u00een loc de rege. Iar Codreanu a fost un tribun care a stat \u00een imagina\u021bia rom\u00e2nilor ca martir \u0219i profet.<\/p>\n

De\u0219i strangulat \u00eentr-o noapte rece de noiembrie \u00een p\u0103durea din T\u00e2nc\u0103be\u0219ti, Codreanu domina \u00eenc\u0103 scena politic\u0103 rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 ca o contrapondere la Carol. Era \u00eenc\u0103 foarte viu: oamenii \u00ee\u021bi povesteau despre el, to\u021bi subliniind o calitate elfic\u0103 a frumuse\u021bii sale \u00eenalte \u0219i \u00eentunecate, ceva care \u00eel deosebea \u00een mod misterios printre oameni \u0219i \u00eel f\u0103cea s\u0103 par\u0103 c\u0103 apar\u021bine p\u0103durilor, m\u0103rilor \u0219i mun\u021bilor.<\/p>\n

Dintre to\u021bi viitorii dictatori, el a fost singurul care nu s-a bazat pe discursuri, ci pe t\u0103cere. Pe un cal alb, \u00een costumul alb al \u021b\u0103ranului rom\u00e2n, C\u0103pitanul, v\u0103 spunea lumea, str\u0103b\u0103tea satele din Moldova \u0219i Muntenia, aclamat de \u021b\u0103rani ca trimisul Arhanghelului Mihail. Nu trebuia s\u0103 vorbeasc\u0103, de cele mai multe ori autorit\u0103\u021bile \u00eei interziceau acest lucru, dar el era acolo, z\u00e2mbind cu z\u00e2mbetul lui radiant de copil, iar oamenii \u00eel iubeau \u0219i credeau \u00een el.<\/p>\n

At\u00e2t de mare a fost efectul lui Codreanu asupra maselor rom\u00e2ne\u0219ti \u00eenc\u00e2t, atunci c\u00e2nd a fost judecat pentru asasinarea prefectului de poli\u021bie Manciu la Turnu Severin, zeci de mii de oameni au a\u0219teptat \u00een fa\u021ba tribunalului. Dup\u0103 ce a fost achitat \u2013 a ac\u021bionat, conform verdictului, \u00een legitim\u0103 ap\u0103rare \u2013 s-a c\u0103s\u0103torit, iar nou\u0103zeci de mii de rom\u00e2ni din toat\u0103 \u021bara, \u00een mii de vehicule, au format un cortegiu nup\u021bial lung de mai bine de \u0219ase kilometri. \u00cenregistrarea acestei procesiuni nup\u021biale a fost confiscat\u0103 \u0219i ars\u0103 de guvern ca document care periclita ordinea \u0219i siguran\u021ba public\u0103<\/span>. Acest lucru s-a \u00eent\u00e2mplat \u00een 1925!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
