    From runways to editorial campaigns, models have their work cut out for them when it comes to staying poised and touting nearly perfect makeup. While we are in constant awe of watching them glide down the catwalk, their effortless beauty translates behind the scenes as well. We’ve all seen those snapshots of Gigi Hadid or Paloma Elsesser running errands in the streets of New York or attending appointments with a seemingly natural glow. The question is, how do they manage to look so<\/em> effortless while doing it? Ahead, we chatted with Marijana \u017divanovi\u0107, a pro makeup artist who has worked on several fashion shows, to explain how to get the model-off-duty makeup look from home.\n<\/p>\n

      Create Glowy Skin <\/span><\/h2>\n

      “When I think of Model off-duty makeup, I instantly think of glowy, hydrated skin that looks fresh and natural,” says \u017divanovi\u0107, noting that the most important factor is skincare. The key to great makeup is always ensuring your skin is in good condition, and the easiest way to do that is to have a simple, consistent skincare routine. Layering facial essence, serum, cream, and SPF is a good place to start when wanting a routine that keeps skin plump and glowing.\n<\/p>\n

      \u017divanovi\u0107 also recommends reaching for a tinted moisturizer if you want something that gives a little coverage yet still lets your skin breathe. “Models\u2019 faces go through a lot on set and backstage, so when they\u2019re off duty, the focus is on replenishing the skin rather than covering it,” she says. “Makeup takes the supporting role in this look.”\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Use Minimal Concealer <\/span><\/h2>\n

      Models often have that bare, fresh-faced glam. \u017divanovi\u0107 credits this to using concealer sparingly. “Conceal lightly where needed for things such as spots, redness, and under-eye circles. Lightly blend that out on the skin for a seamless finish,” she says. If you want to skip foundation altogether, concealer gives enough coverage without looking cakey. \u017divanovi\u0107 recommends avoiding matte foundations or formulas with a heavier finish. A general rule of thumb: Avoid applying any products that take too much effort to apply or remove. The more your skin looks like skin, the closer you are to emulating this trend.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Reach For Cream Products <\/span><\/h2>\n

      When it comes to applying the rest of your makeup, \u017divanovi\u0107 suggests sticking to cream-based makeup products versus powder ones. Since powders can sometimes be drying, it’s the cream and liquid highlighters that are a staple for the model-off-duty look. “Apply a small amount of cream highlighter onto high points of the cheeks and a little into the corners of the eyes. You can even dab a little onto the lids for a subtle sheen,” she says.\n<\/p>\n

      For a natural-looking flush on the cheeks that adds just a touch of rosiness, \u017divanovi\u0107 recommends using a cream blush and blending it out on the apples of the cheeks. Tap the product onto the skin and blend upward until you achieve your desired flush. \u017divanovi\u0107 approves of using your fingers instead of proper tools for this step. “It\u2019s okay to skip brushes for cream product application,” she explains. “Using your fingers makes application effortless and helps products blend seamlessly into the skin.”\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Lift Your Lashes <\/span><\/h2>\n

      Models always seem to look wide awake, even if they barely got any sleep the night before\u2014especially during fashion week. \u017divanovi\u0107 explained that eyelash curlers are essential when wanting the eyes to look as open as possible. “Give your lashes a curl! It really opens the eyes, and sometimes you don\u2019t even need mascara,” she says. “If you choose to use mascarastick to lightweight formulas. Nothing too clumpy or heavy.” Heavy mascara can weigh down the eyes. If you applied too much product, run your fingers over your eyelashes to remove the excess product or use a Q-tip to clean up any smudges.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Stick to Simple Brows <\/span><\/h2>\n

      Models tend to have full, natural-looking eyebrows that aren’t overtly drawn on. \u017divanovi\u0107 attributes brow gel as a hero product to achieve this look. Lightly fill brow gaps with a brow pencil if needed,” she suggests. “Otherwise, just brush up brows with a gel.” When shopping for eyebrow gel, choose a formula that will help hold the hair in place the entire day and doesn’t appear too waxy or flakey when over-applied.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Apply a Tint to Your Lips <\/span><\/h2>\n

      For natural-looking lips that are also hydrated, avoid using bold lipstick colors or overly matte finishes. According to \u017divanovi\u0107, the key to a model-approved lip look is using products that will create a natural tint. “For hydrated lips that have a touch of color, opt for a tinted lip oil or lip balm, as this appears the most natural and fresh,” she adds. You can also apply a lip stain and add an oil or balm on top for a longer-lasting color. If you want to make the most of your products, you can use multi-use cream products on both the cheeks and lips for more of a natural, monochromatic look.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Define Your Eyes <\/span><\/h2>\n

      If you want to take things further and add some definition around the eyes, skip the shadow and shimmering finishes and use a simple eyeliner instead. \u017divanovi\u0107 is a fan of brown eyeliners, as they are notably versatile. “If you need a little definition around the eyes, use a blendable brown liner pencil right along the lash line and smudge it out [with a thin brush or your finger] to soften it,” she suggests. This brings definition to the look without having to commit to an eyeshadow.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
