There is something serene about Bawo\u2019s music. On \u201cDon\u2019t Lie on My Head,\u201d a standout from his Live & Let Thrive<\/em> EP, the London rapper embraces the difficulties necessary to reach a goal: \u201cThis bus don\u2019t go to the top of the mountain\/What you gonna do? Jump out then (jump out).\u201d As he contemplates his journey, he drops asides filled with adroit wordplay: \u201cIt\u2019s not that, it\u2019s dis-missed\/In other words, off target.\u201d When he finally gets to the sung hook, you feel as if he\u2019s traveled far to receive its \u00a0wisdom: \u201cPlease don\u2019t lie on my head but go ahead and say what you need to\/And if you\u2019ve gotta lie on my head, it best be only when you need to.\u201d Mirroring this tension, the production commences with gentle keys, only to move into UK garage territory with skittering percussion and pulsating bass. Bawo finds calm within its storm.<\/p>\n
