Nemzzz – “2MS”

The Manchester MC Nemzzz has been on a roll lately, dropping tracks that match his rigorous flow with heavy beats. The seventeen-year-old rapper’s latest track “2MS” is a formidable display of his unique style. The production is made out of galaxy-devouring sub-bass, skittering production, and a reversed vocal sample; this melange of sounds forms a pounding backdrop for Nemzzz’s icy flow. After rapping the comic opening line (“Yo, bro got black and white like MJ/caramel one, she bad”), he proceeds to demolish everything in his path, spitting words so quickly that it’s easy to miss his playful asides (my favorite of these is: “Invest in me, like NFT/Bro whipped that quick/that’s a cup of tea”). Thankfully he slows down every now and then, literally stopping to ask you if you got what he just said (“You hear that?/Clap, clap”). It’s a verbal onslaught delivered with humor.

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.
