Finesse2Tymes is on his second rap life. Years ago, the Memphis native was buzzing in the South based on a string of singles and connections to local pillars like Moneybagg Yo and Blac Youngsta. But while the Memphis rappers of his generation turned into countrywide stars, he sat behind bars; his rise was disrupted by repeated stints in jail throughout his twenties. That is, until July, when Finesse was set free and instantly brushed the dust off the mic. He returned to rapping his ass off, showcased on a tear of pummeling tracks and on-the-spot freestyles. Watch the clip of him spitting on Million Dollaz Worth of Game; the hunger is undeniable.

That hunger is in “Finesse Duh P,” too, one of the early standouts on 90 Days, the mixtape intended to be the capstone of his last several months. Over the booming beat, Finesse’s thunderous voice races through his usual motivational statements and lifestyle realities. There’s so much heart behind even the most trivial words: A bunch of times his voice cracks from putting his all into a bar. It’s not a song that will sound unfamiliar, but rapping with this much fire doesn’t get played-out. He’s making up for lost time well.

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.
