Jozzy\u2019s \u201cSongs for Women\u201d<\/div>\n

Jozzy is a powerhouse songwriter with writing credits on everything from the Billy Ray Cyrus edition of \u201cOld Town Road\u201d to Beyonce\u0301\u2019s \u201cVirgo\u2019s Groove.\u201d Last year, she was recruited to Diddy\u2019s Love Records, one of the mogul\u2019s infinite attempts at bringing life to modern R&B. Judging by Jozzy\u2019s immaculately-titled new EP, Songs for Women, Free Game for Niggas<\/em>, it\u2019s on the verge of working. Jozzy is a student of \u201990s soul, and the EP is full of sweeping melodies and melodrama, but the standout intro \u201cSongs for Women\u201d might have more in common with The-Dream. Produced by a team that includes Diddy and Stevie J, saved from the nonstop reality TV grind, the beat is ethereal enough to have been on Love King<\/em> and gives Jozzy\u2019s writing the floor.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s ideal because you want to hang onto her every word. Here, she\u2019s feeling a girl, but playing it cool. The closest she comes to overstepping is when she asks, \u201cHow many niggas in yo\u2019 DMs got more money than me?,\u201d but she stops it from seeming manipulative by following that up with \u201cIt don\u2019t matter though, because you like who you like.\u201d Even the way she describes the girl\u2019s night out is carefully worded: \u201cShe put on that make up for her friends, she get dressed up for her friends, not for a nigga.\u201d It\u2019s like the EP title suggests: \u201cFree game for niggas\u201d\u2014how to move when dating a woman with options. I got my notepad out.<\/p>\n

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it\u2019s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all\u2014no matter how tapped in they are. That\u2019s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.<\/em><\/p>\n
