Michael Kwame: “Going With All”

Michael Kwame’s “Going With All” is the type of earnest and heartfelt song you would have stumbled into back in the heyday of hip-hop’s blog era; there’s the woozy, self-made beat and the way Kwame delivers introspective lines like he’s got his head in the clouds. But what keeps me coming back isn’t the familiarity, it’s the Virgina rapper-producer’s relatable lyrics. “How do you live with the losses, lessons, and being wrong?” he asks at one point; later, he dives into personal ruts. The hard and inspired rapping is smashed between a wistful sung hook, making it even more evocative. His sentiment of taking the pain head-on might make the track a good companion to the new Navy Blue album.

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.
