Back in 2024, Caitlin Clark arrived in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever as the first overall pick, carrying the weight of a historic college career. As the NCAA Division I all-time scoring leader, surpassing even the men’s record, and a two-time Naismith College Player of the Year, she arrived with immense expectations. She immediately validated the hype by winning Rookie of the Year after a record-breaking campaign.

That debut season saw her set the single-season record for assists, achieve a single-game high of 19 assists, and record the second-most three-pointers in a single season. However, 2025 brought adversity; injuries forced her to miss significant time, limiting her to just 13 appearances while she watched from the sidelines as the Fever enjoyed their most successful season in a decade.

Any questions regarding her recovery were silenced when she was named MVP of the FIBA World Cup qualification tournament with Team USA after nearly eight months away from the court. 

Now, five games into the 2026 season, Clark is back in peak form. She is currently averaging 23.8 points and a league-leading 9.0 assists per game, while also contributing 4.4 rebounds. By ranking in the top three of both scoring and assists, she has cemented her status as one of the most versatile threats in the league.

Her performance has been the catalyst for the Indiana Fever, who lead the league in scoring after two weeks of play. The team is clearly operating with a “championship or bust” mentality following their hard-fought, overtime exit in Game 5 of the semifinals against the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces last year.

The Fever are currently riding a three-game winning streak and are finding their rhythm at the perfect time. As the long season progresses, Clark’s command of the offense has only grown, proving that her early-season numbers are just the baseline for what she can achieve. 

The team will now take a short break before their next matchup on Thursday against the Golden State Valkyries. Following that clash, they will close out the month of May in Portland, marking a significant milestone as they participate in the first-ever game at the new franchise’s home arena. 

With Clark orchestrating the attack and the team’s chemistry rapidly improving, the Fever are positioning themselves as a legitimate WNBA title contender.
