Bella Hadid may not be an actor, but she’s become a regular on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. For the last decade, the supermodel has served up some of the most glamorous looks, typically topped off with her long, dark hair in an elegant updo. In fact, the only appearance in which she wasn’t a full-blown brunette was in 2019, when she was borderline-bronde. But it seems Hadid wanted to lighten up this time around, as she’s been spotted around the French Riviera with the blondest shade we’ve seen on her in a very long time.

Hadid started posting snippets of her current Cannes trip on her Instagram Stories on Monday, May 12, the eve of the famous film festival, sharing a look at the view from her hotel room, her breakfast, and her glam team, but none of herself. Thankfully, photographers knew to anticipate her arrival and were able to let the world know that the Orebella founder had left her brunette ways behind in the U.S.

Hadid was seen outside Hotel Martinez smiling and waving at the crowd as she walked by in an all-white ensemble of jeans and a corset top. The fresh feeling of her outfit was shared with her hairstyle: a casual-yet-upscale, messy-yet-sophisticated twist with long, side-parted bangs in a sandy honey shade of blonde.

It seems she’s definitely committing to the color because even her brows look lightening up to a more taupe hue.

“Bella attends Cannes every year, so it was the perfect moment to do something major,” colorist Jacob Schwartz says. “Bella is a natural blonde, so sourcing photos of her as a child was a great reference. Using those images and her skin tone led us to this epic, luxurious honey hue.”

Schwartz says it “took two days of color and a whole lot of Olaplex,” including No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment and No.2 Bond Perfector. “Post-color, her hair didn’t have breakage. It was incredibly healthy, allowing me to style her hair for the red carpet with ease.”

Hadid has, of course, been blonde many times before: a bombshell shade back in 2019, a golden blonde in 2022 that looks a lot like her childhood hair color, and, of course, countless wigs in photo shoots. This isn’t her first blonde rodeo. But we can’t wait to see what new looks she brings to the red carpet this time around.
