‘Game Of Thrones’ video game adaptation delayed until 2027

Announced last year, Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros is an “epic” real-time-strategy game that will let you rewrite the plot of the hit TV show. “Conquer the Seven Kingdoms solo, or in treacherous free-for-all multiplayer. Command the Great Houses, rally iconic heroes, and rewrite the fate of the realm. Do you have the strength to seize the Iron Throne,” reads the Steam description. Players will be able to lead House Stark, Lannister or Targaryen in the game, or “raise an army of the dead” as the Night King.

A cinematic reveal trailer features familiar characters from the TV show, with Kit Harington’s Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s Jaime Lannister all featuring. However, rather than following the same narrative beats of the show, developers have made it clear that in War For Westeros, players have full control of how the story ends. In the trailer, Jon Snow is killed by the Night King while Daenerys Targaryen is taken out by an enemy soldier.

Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros had been due to launch at some point this year. However, since the initial reveal, game developers PlaySide hadn’t shared any new updates.

Over the weekend, they confirmed Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros has been delayed. “Since the announcement of Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros, development has been progressing well,” they wrote in a new blog post. As well as explaining how maps, combat and heroes will work in the game, PlaySide also announced War For Westeros will now launch in “early” 2027, but didn’t give a reason for the delay.

“We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game Of Thrones fans,” they added. “This decision gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for. We know the wait has been long, and we do not take your support for granted.”
