While LeBron James’ future for the upcoming NBA season remains uncertain, Stephen Curry has taken the recruitment effort into his own hands—and he is doing it in the most creative way possible.
The Golden State Warriors superstar used his appearance Thursday at the American Century Championship golf tournament in Lake Tahoe to reveal details of his unique pitch to convince the NBA’s all-time leading scorer to join him in the Bay Area. The sales pitch? Elite basketball, a championship-caliber environment, and plenty of golf.
“The pitch is if you want to play good basketball, be around people that know how to play the game, hopefully raise our floor and our competitiveness this year. There’s good golf in the Bay,” Curry said.
“We’re an organization that’s been there, and he knows that,” Curry added. “It’s self-explanatory. It’s just a matter of where he sees himself fitting. At the end of the day, that’s up to him.”
For Curry, teaming up with LeBron James, a four-time NBA champion and 22-time All-Star, would represent a historic moment unlike anything the league has seen before.
“It would be such a unique story in NBA history — sports history,” Curry said.
LeBron’s future remains uncertain after Lakers departure
Since announcing his split from the Los Angeles Lakers on June 30, LeBron has become the center of attention across the NBA landscape, with the Warriors emerging as one of the most intriguing potential destinations for what could be the final chapter of his legendary career.
Still, Curry is keeping expectations in check and acknowledged that he has not received any indication that the future Hall of Famer is preparing to wear a Golden State jersey next season.
“It’s a little premature right now to talk about that,” Curry said.
The connection between the two basketball icons extends well beyond the court. Curry revealed that he would also love the opportunity to share a round of golf with James at Lake Tahoe and even extended a playful invitation.
“Absolutely,” Curry said when asked if he would enjoy playing 18 holes with the former Lakers star. “If he can get a jet out here for tomorrow, that’d be awesome.”
The Warriors’ offer is clearly on the table: a winning culture, championship experience, elite teammates—and some of the best golf courses in the country. Now, the decision belongs to LeBron James.
