“I hope this song can mean different things to different people,” he explained of the raw track. “It can be taken as a metaphor. Or it can be taken literally as a description of how I have perceived my own body, for my whole life.”

Sombr added: “I wanted to write about my struggle so that other people who may also be struggling know that they are not alone. You are beautiful, and I love you.”

In the soaring chorus, he explores how body image issues can affect his love life: “I like you, but my body isn’t ready/ I want you, but the mirror won’t let me/ I try to be the person you’re expecting/ But I’m not ready, I’m not ready.”

He later adds: “If I could crawl out of my own skin, would you let me in?

‘My Body Isn’t Ready’ was solely written and co-produced by Sombr. The single’s accompanying official music video stars Inde Navarrette and Josh Heuston, and was directed by Gus Black.

Sombr debuted the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (Thursday June 25). Watch the performance above.

The song follows Sombr’s previous singles from this year, ‘Homewrecker’ and ‘Potential’. His debut studio album, ‘I Barely Know Her’, was released last summer. In a four-star review, NME called the record “smart, emotional and surprisingly upbeat”.

Sombr is heading out on a North American headline this year, and will also perform at Reading & Leeds in August. His other summer festival appearances include Sziget, Rock En Seine and Electric Picnic.

The singer spoke to NME at the BRITs 2026, where he was nominated for International Artist and International Song (‘Undressed’). Sombr said he felt “honoured” to be at the awards, and was “thankful for the British people for accepting” his debut album “with open arms”.

“I just love it here,” he told us. “It’s the music that comes from the UK [that clicks with me]. In my opinion, I love America, but I think acts from the UK just beat them, in terms of iconic acts.”

He cited the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Elton John, as well as some legendary Manchester bands like Oasis and The Stone Roses.

In April, Sombr delivered a surprise duet with Billy Corgan at Coachella, where he also performed with Billy Idol, and covered a Radiohead classic.
