There will soon be a new leader at Colorado’s Steamboat Ski Resort.

In a news release from Steamboat Pilot, Alterra Mountain Company announced that it will “part ways” with Steamboat Springs President and Chief Operating Officer Dave Hunter. The release said that Steamboat Resort would begin its replacement search immediately.

In the meantime, Rob Perlman will coordinate the resort’s daily operations. Perlman is no stranger to Steamboat, having worked there from 2008 to 2024 and serving as the resort’s president for nine years. Currently, Perlman is the executive vice president of the Alterra Mountain Company’s Rockies Division, holding that position since 2023.

Hunter’s departure is one of many big changes Alterra has recently faced. In March, Alterra announced its Chief Operating Officer, Jared Smith, would be stepping down at the end of the season. Crystal Mountain, Washington, also announced its new president and COO, Linnea Hansen.

Alterra’s Executive Committee of the Board is currently functioning as the office of the CEO.

Hunter began his stint as Steamboat’s president and COO in 2024 after Perlman left for his current position. He was previously the vice president at Steamboat and also served as the director of operations at Eldora Mountain Resort. Like Perlman, Hunter has also been in the ski industry for decades.

Under Hunter, Steamboat Resort saw the completion of multiple large projects, including its 10-person Wild Blue GondolaThe resort also completed its 650-acre Mahogany Ridge expansion and its Greenhorn Ranch learning center.

The Alterra Mountain Company was founded in 2018 in Denver, Colorado. It owns and operates the IKON Pass, which includes more than a dozen major ski resorts, including Deer Valley, Mammoth Mountain, and Palisades Tahoe. The Alterra Mountain Company is owned by private equity firm, KSL Capital Partners and investment firm, Henry Crown & Company.
