Imagine Dragons Dan Reynolds’ video game won’t be coming to console after lack of interest

“‘Last Flag’ has been unable to find the audience it needs”

Last Flag, an online multiplayer video game co-created by Imagine Dragons vocalist Dan Reynolds, won’t be coming to console after struggling to find an audience.

Last Flag was announced last year and launched on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store last month. The multiplayer title takes heavy inspiration from the classic Capture The Flag game and has been developed by Night Street Games studio, which was co-founded by Dan Reynolds and his brother Mac. It also featured original music by Dan, who collaborated with Imagine Dragons’ guitarist Wayne Sermon, songwriter JT Daly and singer Marcos Issaak for the soundtrack.

Despite the game being advertised across Imagine Dragons’ social media platforms, Last Flag’s concurrent player peak on Steam was just 558. In the past 24 hours, the most people playing at any one time was 48 and right now, just seven players are online (via SteamDB). A console launch has now been scrapped, alongside future updates.

“If you’ve been following the Steam charts, you already know that Last Flag has been unable to find the audience it needs to give all of you the experience you deserve,” Mac explained in the game’s official Discord server (via Knoebel on Twitter). “But that doesn’t mean we’re about to throw in the towel. The financial reality of our situation means we’re unlikely to be able to support additional development (including console, for now) beyond some upcoming patches.”

Last Flag isn’t going anywhere,” Mac added. “The faith that the community put into our shared dream means everything to us, so we’re going to make sure that the game doesn’t disappear. Being able to build Last Flag for you has been a dream come true. Our game belongs to you now, and we hope to continue capturing flags with you for years to come. In the meantime, we’ll see you on the battlefield-and we hope you’ll tune in for what comes next from Night Street Games.”

“Our focus will shift to replayability, community support, and empowering our players to write the next chapter of Last Flag with persistent lobbies and unique game rules inspired by some of the games we love like GoldenEye, Team Fortress 2, and Super Smash Bros,” explained a post on Steam. “We don’t want to kill our game – we want to give it to the community who helped us get here.”
