Here’s All the Fresh Hair Inspiration You Need for 2026

We made you a vision board.

True Whitaker having her hair done.True Whitaker having her hair done.

@truewhitaker/Instagram

Happy New Year! Or whatever day it is. At this time of year, it’s really hard to tell.

Because of this, I’ve taken a different approach to timekeeping. I like to think of my life in terms of “before” and “after” whatever life-changing hair situation has most recently happened to me. This can be a fresh cut or color, or the discovery of a particularly good claw clip. When I feel myself getting antsy for change, I know enough time has gone by (let’s say… three months, in normal calendar world) and it’s time for a new season to begin.

If you’ve found yourself in a similar where-am-I, who-am-I rut, I’d love to offer some hair inspiration to help you break free. Ahead, find 17 pieces of fresh hair inspiration for you to take into 2026 and all the seasons (real or self-conceptualized) beyond.

One Perfect Pin

A woman with long dark hair pinned to one side.A woman with long dark hair pinned to one side.

@wolfiecindy/Instagram

Listen… your life is one perfect hair pin away from being changed forever. The Prep School Pin trend is the easiest (and one of the cheapest) looks you can get if you’re in the mood to try something new.

02of 17

One Perfect Curl

Chase Infiniti with an elegant giant curled updo.Chase Infiniti with an elegant giant curled updo.

@amberdmakeup/Instagram

Or don’t even bother sourcing a pin. Change your life with a single perfectly curled tendril instead. There can be other curls going on in your ‘do, but the main attraction is a stiffly set, majorly twisty moment alongside your face. You might want to brush it out. Please don’t.

Unbothered Beach Waves

Sabrina Carpenter with her hair worked into winter beach waves.Sabrina Carpenter with her hair worked into winter beach waves.

@cgonzalezbeauty/Instagram

Instead of the almost three-barreled style we were loving all spring and summer 2025, this style is more beach than wave. Undone, unbothered perfection.

Choppy Bangs

True Whitaker shows off a set of bangs.True Whitaker shows off a set of bangs.

@truewhitaker/Instagram

The new year is a great time to get the bangs you’ve been thinking about. My arguments: It’s cold out (so you don’t have to deal with styling sweaty fringe), they look cute under hats, and if you hate them they’ll be more manageable by summer. I especially love the short, choppy fringe that True Whitaker is rocking here.

@raoulalejandre/Instagram

This is a hairstyle that six-year-old me would be thrilled about. However you choose to style your strands—maybe you’ll have an Ayo Edebiri year and include a fun hat?—add a collection of teeny tiny braids for extra texture. Or, play with two other opposing textures. You can mix and match all 2026 long.

Pouf Pouf

@jennychohair/Instagram

There’s a ribbon featured here that deserves a shoutout, but I’m most excited about Laufey’s impressive volume at the crown. This pouf has commercial-worthy Bump-It goodness. The face-framing pieces that are left out sell the look as a whole, putting it in a place of 2026 instead of 2010 or mid-1960s.

As we eagerly await the release of American Love Story, the world is growing more and more enchanted with CBK-esque lemon platinum hair. Looking luxe against silky fabrics and cozy sweaters, it’s so good for the cold weather.

Your Hair, But Better

Devon Lee Carlson with her highlighted brunette hair.Devon Lee Carlson with her highlighted brunette hair.

@devonleecarlson/Instagram

Premiering an all-new hair color is certainly always possible (and exciting), but sometimes you don’t want to think that hard. Thus, I present the popular “your hair but better” shade. The vision: your natural color, just a little brighter and bolder. It looks good on you because it’s already yours.

Half-and-Half

Amanda Seyfried with her hair in a luxe half-up hairdo.Amanda Seyfried with her hair in a luxe half-up hairdo.

@jennychohair/Instagram

A good lesson to learn is the importance of meeting halfway: between houses, on the thermostat setting when you’re fighting about it with your roommate, and in your hairstyle design. This soft but sculptural Amanda Seyfried style has the best of everything going on. There are also two levels to the half-and-halving here: it’s half up and half down, and the part that’s up is half-bun half-pony.

10of 17

Boho Knotless Braids

Ski Jackson wearing long boho braidsSki Jackson wearing long boho braids

Boho braids are still a fabulous option as we enter 2026. Celebrity hairstylist Kendra Garvey previously told Byrdie that the style “offers the best of both worlds: structured braids with flowy, curly, wavy tresses. It’s effortlessly versatile and easy to dress up or down for any occasion.”

The Best Bob

One of the most special things that happened to me in 2025 was a man, at a bar, telling me in a solemn tone that he had an important question to ask and then throwing “why doesn’t everyone have the Gracie Abrams haircut?” at me. It is an important question!!! It’s such a good haircut. I know bobs have been a thing, but as the world wakes up to this information I promise we’ll be seeing it everywhere in 2026.

Pile of Curls

Rachel Sennott with her curled updo.Rachel Sennott with her curled updo.

@claytonhawkins/Instagram

Is it giving prom? A little bit. And that’s (part of) what makes it so special. I’m sure you have plenty of bobby pins laying around, so next time you have an extra moment to get ready take some time to utilize them. It’s a shame to pin all those gorgeous ringlets up, in a way, but the face framing makes up for it.

13of 17

The Opposite Approach

Greta Lee with her structured haircut.Greta Lee with her structured haircut.

@ninapark/Instagram

It’s a year of “or”s, I suppose. Instead of the curls and pins, many will take the opposite approach and go slick and straight with strong lines and styles that need a single ponytail holder (if that) to stay intact.

Flowing Curls

This soft but sculptural Amanda Seyfried style has the best of everything going on. There are also two levels to the half-and-halving here: it’s half up and half down, and the part that’s up is half-bun half-pony.

Boho Knotless Braids

Is it giving prom? A little bit. And that’s (part of) what makes it so special. I’m sure you have plenty of bobby pins laying around, so next time you have an extra moment to get ready take some time to utilize them. It’s a shame to pin all those gorgeous ringlets up, in a way, but the face framing makes up for it.

The Opposite Approach

It’s a year of “or”s, I suppose. Instead of the curls and pins, many will take the opposite approach and go slick and straight with strong lines and styles that need a single ponytail holder (if that) to stay intact.

After a season of Holiday updos, let your hair down a little as we kick off the year. We’ll never get tired of seeing healthy, happy curls in all their glory.

Middle Part Update

Middle or side part? Who cares! As long as the part leads to something incredible, you’re good. The “something incredible” here is the soft wave and curled ends that give your face a museum-worthy framing job.

Let’s have a brighter year, shall we? Sticking with the “your hair but better” approach, we’re continuing to wake up to softly blended highlights that up your natural glow.

Another keyword—and you’ll love this one—is simple. Taylor Russell’s softer than soft waves are understated but still full of purpose, proving she knows exactly what’s going on with her hair texture-wise. Here’s to being self aware in the new year, and our hairstyles following suit.
